The BA in economics is offered both in-person and online. In this program, you will join bright and energetic students from all over the world who are active in organizations like our own Economics Society. You will have opportunities to pursue your own original research or an accelerated masters degree, to study abroad, or to reach your career goals through internships.

The BA in Economics is designed for students with a strong interest in a broad education in the liberal arts tradition. Students interested in Mason are encouraged to focus on completing courses that meet general education requirements. BA degree programs in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences have additional requirements in: philosophy or religion, social and behavioral science, foreign language through the intermediate level, and non-western culture. Students are encouraged to use the "Contact an Institution" section of the portal and connect with our staff for questions related to specific course equivalencies and requirements. For the BA in economics degree, introductory courses for the major (such as ECON 103 and 104) may be completed prior to transfer to Mason.

• Connect with an advisor at your community college and George Mason University within your first year

Students often pair the BA with minors in a foreign language, global systems, or business. We also have a concentration in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) that combines insights from the three disciplines commonly found in a pre-law program.

Our majors achieve success in a range of careers. They are financial advisors, lawyers, managers, researchers in government, think tanks, and non-profits, entrepreneurs, even medical professionals and musicians. The great benefit of an economics degree is its versatility.
