The Anthropology, BA at GMU is an on campus in-person degree program. We take a holistic approach to understanding the many different aspects of the human experience. As such, students will take an introductory class and upper-level class in each of the 3 sub-disciplines: cultural, archaeology, and biological anthropology. With the elective credits allotted in the major, you may choose to focus more specific in one of these areas or you can choose a blend of what interests you.

Students interested in Mason are encouraged to focus on completing courses that meet general education requirements. BA degree programs in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences have additional requirements in: philosophy or religion, social and behavioral science, foreign language through the intermediate level, and non-western culture. Students are encouraged to use the "Contact an Institution" section of the portal and connect with our staff for questions related to specific course equivalencies and requirements.

For the BA Anthropology, introductory courses for the major (such as ANTH 114, 120, and 135) may be completed prior to transfer to Mason.

Past graduates have applied their degrees working as teachers, legal assistants, U.S. Park Service rangers, medical, federal and private researchers, analysts, and policy consultants, medicolegal work, health care providers, and more. Others pursue graduate degrees. However anthropology may shape a student's path, at Mason, it opens doors to a global range of possibilities.
