Economics is about more than money and profits. It is a way of looking at the world through the lens of incentives, choices, and markets to help uncover new solutions to the persistent problems in our society. This economic perspective sheds light on important issues in the areas of production, education, crime, the environment, international trade, immigration, health care, economic growth, poverty, and more. The Bachelor of Science in Economics provides a stronger emphasis on quantitative analysis. Students prepare for a career as an analyst in government, consulting, trade associations, or other private sector positions, and for graduate school in economics or more quantitative business administration programs.

Considerations for Selecting Degree	The BS in economics is offered both in-person and online. With the courses available in the BS program, you will be well prepared for a career as an analyst in government, consulting, trade associations, or other private sector positions, and for graduate school in economics or more quantitative business administration programs.

Considerations When Selecting Courses	Students interested in Mason are encouraged to focus on completing courses that meet general education requirements. Students are encouraged to use the "Contact an Institution" section of the portal and connect with our staff for questions related to specific course equivalencies and requirements. The BS in economics has a stronger emphasis on skills in quantitative analysis. Students pursuing this degree often take more courses in calculus and statistics in their first two years to prepare for the requirements. Introductory courses for the major (such as ECON 103 and 104) may be completed prior to transfer to Mason. Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year Connect with an advisor at your community college and George Mason University within your first year
