Considerations for Selecting Degree The The Early Childhood Development Associate of Applied Science Degree curriculum is designed for persons who seek employment involving the care and education of young children, or for those persons presently employed in these situations who wish to update and enhance their competencies, or those interested in transferring to four-year colleges to pursue teacher licensure Prek-3rd Gr.
Considerations When Selecting Courses

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and Germanna Community College within your first year via College Connect
Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses Students in this program should enroll in SDV 100, CHD 120, CHD 145, CHD 165, CHD 205, and EDU 235 their first semester. Observation and practicum experiences in an approved public-school setting are required. A Criminal Record Clearance/Sex Offender Registry check at the student's expense is required for placement and volunteering. Students will be expected to complete a tuberculosis test before placement.

Human Services Assistant, YMCA, Boys & Girls Club.
Program Successes & Highlights Scholarships: Are available specific to Early Childhood majors, including the Virginia Child Care Providers scholarship, and the Project Pathfinders Scholarship. Instructional Delivery: Most Early Childhood courses are offered virtually in the evenings (synchronously and asynchronously) to accommodate working professionals. Course highlights: Students in the degree program develop a professional teaching portfolio that is helpful in applying for teaching positions. Practicum: Practicum experiences provide opportunities for students to gain experience and network with employers who often hire current students or upon graduation. The Early Childhood program provides students with information about current job opportunities in the community.

Transfer Guidance Element What You Need to Know
Associate Transfer Degree Completion Students who transfer with a completed Associate degree will be awarded SDV 100 and will have their transcript evaluated for other individual course transfer. Students who transfer with a completed Bachelor degree from a U.S. college or university will be awarded SDV 100, ENG 111 and ENG 112. The transcript will be evaluated for other individual course transfer.

Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School Students earning an associate degree while in high school are not eligible for guaranteed admission programs. All courses are evaluated and transferred as applicable to your degree.
