Considerations for Selecting Degree

The RN-BSN program course work is offered online providing the flexibility to pursue your studies while working. At Emory & Henry, students have the opportunity to take advantage of our state of the art facilities and opportunities for interprofessional collaboration. Students may need to travel to clinical experiences.

* Students may dually enroll in nursing courses while enrolled in their ADN coursework via Emory & Henry’s concurrent admissions program. https://www.ehc.edu/admission/apply-now/concurrent-admission/

* Students that are Virginia residents transferring to a Virginia private school can qualify for up to $5.000 per year through the Virginia Tuition Assistance Program

* Transfer to our RN-BSN program with your associate’s degree in nursing (ADN): https://www.ehc.edu/academics/rn-bsn/

Considerations When Selecting Courses

Students may transfer in up to 75 credits – 39 credits from Diploma or ADN nursing courses. A total of 120 credit hours are required for BSN degree if all general education hours are met. The registrar will review and send the student an evaluation of what other coursework may be needed. Early advisement will provide guidance as to specific coursework taken at the community college with the highest transferability to positively impact your course of study including dual enrollment opportunities. https://www.ehc.edu/admission/apply-now/concurrent-admission/

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and Emory & Henry University within your first year via College Connect
Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses Though the RN-BSN program coursework is online, students may need to travel to clinical experiences. Students in the RN-BSN program are not required to travel abroad. All nursing students must be CPR Healthcare Provider certified from the American Heart Association and pass a background check prior to beginning classes. Students will apply to Emory & Henry College, but there is an additional nursing application process. Please connect as soon as possible with a nursing admissions representative to assist you in this process.
Doing More With Your Degree To meet the needs of the 21st century, employers are looking for nurses who provide high quality care, can demonstrate critical thinking skills, and can assist patients in navigating an increasingly complex healthcare system, with increased focus on health promotion. Earning your BSN will open doors professionally, broadening career possibilities, and achieving a higher income. It is the next step to pursuing a graduate studies including a MSN or Doctoral degree providing additional professional and career opportunities. (Emory & Henry College will begin offering the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in Fall 2023 in the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) with priority seating to our alumni)
Program Successes & Highlights

E&H has a long tradition in providing a high quality liberal arts education. Today’s health professionals need critical thinking and communication skills. An education rooted in the liberal arts and sciences provides a strong foundation to meet increasingly complex healthcare needs. Tomorrow’s healthcare professionals need to be prepared to think, not simply do. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to student education and success. The School of Nursing faculty have rich and varied clinical experiences and have published widely including a recent book, titled Rural Health Nursing: Barriers and Benefits in 2022.

* Accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(https://www.ccneaccreditation.org)

* Initial approval by Virginia State Board of Nursing

* Prepares Post-licensure if professional development while it qualifies pre-licensure BSN graduates to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

What If I Have An Associate Degree Or Credit For Prior Learning?
Expand or Shrink Accordion
Transfer Guidance Element What You Need to Know
Associate Transfer Degree Completion Completion of the Uniform Certificate of General Studies or an AA/AS degree program will guarantee completion of the 'Think, Understand & Create' liberal arts core component of the E&H undergraduate curriculum but may not fulfill specific departmental requirements or prerequisites needed for the major. Other elements of the core curriculum may need to be met if not taken as part of the AA/AS degree. Students will be required to complete CORE 200 and CORE 300 at E&H. Students completing at least 56 credits following high school graduation but before transferring to E&H are exempt from CORE 100, CORE 103, and Emory Abroad/Global Citizenship.

Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School Only students who have completed college credit elsewhere following high school graduation will be exempt from the Core Curriculum requirement. Completion of courses that satisfy elements of the Care & Cultural Competency and Think, Understand & Create elements of the curriculum will be awarded equivalent credit with an earned grade of C or better. Students completing the Uniform Certificate of General Studies or an AA/AS degree program concurrently with their high school diploma will not be exempt from CORE 100, CORE 103, or Emory Abroad/Global Citizenship.
Credit for Prior Learning Emory & Henry awards credit for AP, IB, and CLEP. Please see the credit equivalency charts to determine the needed scores for course credit. Currently, we do not award academic credit for industry or military training.
Did You Know That...
  • Completing your Associate transfer degree post-high school satisfies all lower division general education requirements and increases the chance of completing your bachelor's degree?
  • Exceeding 3 years or 90 credits at your community college means you may have exhausted your financial aid at that college and have limited your future financial aid at: Emory & Henry University
