The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program in Sociology offers courses in which students acquire greater knowledge and an appreciation of social behavior in human groups, organizations, and societies. Sociology students also develop an understanding of social and cultural diversity, the relationship between the individual and society, and social inequality based on race, class, and gender.

Outcomes

SLO 1: Students will understand and be able to illustrate how seemingly private/individual problems have social/structural causes. SLO 2: Students will be able to differentiate trends, structures, and conditions that create societies and their ensuing challenges, divisions, and possibilities. SLO 3: Students will be able to identify and critique the major paradigms of social thought and their respective outcomes. SLO 4: Students will be able to produce, evaluate, utilize, and synthesize research within the discipline.

Associate Transfer Degree Completion	Completion of a qualifying VCCS associate degree program will guarantee completion of the general education component of the Hollins undergraduate curriculum but may not fulfill specific departmental requirements or prerequisites needed for the major.
Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School	Students earning an associate degree while in high school are not eligible for guaranteed admission programs and must complete general education courses. All courses are evaluated and transferred as applicable to your degree.
Credit for Prior Learning	We accept AP and IB results for college credit if the score earned meets college expectations. Transfer credits will be considered for CLEP (College Level Examination Program) on an individual basis for examinations if Hollins offers a comparable course.
