Biomedical science is the scientific study of biological issues related to medicine and health. The core courses in biology and chemistry provide a foundation that allows students to develop broad-based knowledge and skills from classroom and laboratory experiences. These courses may serve as prerequisites for admission to professional schools in the health area (medical, dental, veterinary, physical therapy, optometry, chiropractic, physician assistant, pharmacy, etc.). With appropriately chosen electives, this program will also prepare students for graduate study in a variety of fields, including genetics and molecular biology or employment in the rapidly growing biotechnology industry. Since admission to graduate and professional programs in the health sciences is highly competitive, students will work closely with their academic advisors to ensure that all admission prerequisites are met and courses are properly sequenced.
