The B.S. in Psychology is designed to provide a knowledge base of current methods, content areas, and theories. It seeks to facilitate the development of intellectual skills and characteristics that enhance the student's lifelong personal and career success. The BS in Psychology offers students four particular areas of interest: Health Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Human Factors Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

Considerations for Selecting Degree	The B.S. in Psychology is designed to provide a knowledge base of current methods, content areas, and theories. It seeks to facilitate the development of intellectual skills and characteristics that enhance the student's lifelong personal and career success. The program begins with a general psychology course and includes courses in scientific reasoning in psychology, quantitative methods and experimental design. Additional coursework is selected from a broad range of available courses. Students are encouraged to pursue breadth across the areas of psychology, particularly when planning for advanced study in psychology. The department does, however, identify sets of courses particularly relevant for students interested in health psychology, clinical, industrial/organizational, or human factors (engineering) psychology.
Considerations When Selecting Courses	A student who intends to major in psychology must attend a Major Declaration Session in the Department of Psychology. Freshmen with 0-30 Earned Hours need to meet with an advisor from the College of Sciences advising team for pre-registration advising for their first academic year. Once students have earned 30 hours with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and a psychology GPA of 2.0 or higher, and completed MATH 102M or MATH 103M (or a higher math), PSYC 201S, and both composition courses, earning a C or better in each, they will need to attend a Major Declaration Session. Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year Connect with an advisor at your community college and Old Dominion University within your first year via College Connect

What If I Have An Associate Degree Or Credit For Prior Learning?

Transfer Guidance Element	What You Need to Know
Associate Transfer Degree Completion	Completion of the general education certificate or a transfer-oriented associate degree program will guarantee completion of the University Core general education component of the ODU undergraduate curriculum but may not fulfill specific departmental requirements or prerequisites needed for the major. With a completed transferrable Associate Degree from VCCS, students may enter ODU as a junior with lower division education requirements considered met as indicated in the pathway map.
Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School	With a completed transferrable Associate Degree from VCCS, students may enter ODU as a junior with lower division education requirements considered met as indicated in the pathway map. Even if the Associate Degree was completed concurrently while completing their high school requirements.
Credit for Prior Learning	The Office of Prior Learning exists to aid ODU students in translating their professional work knowledge into academic credit. Through the use of various mechanisms, we are able to offer students the opportunity to have their prior learning assessed and applied for academic credit. This path may save the students both time and money as they work toward their degree.
