The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program in Mathematics, as well as the BS degree program in Mathematics with a Data Science concentration, promote a strengthening of problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and critical and analytical abilities in major areas of mathematics (calculus, linear algebra, statistics, algebra, and analysis), as well as familiarity with applications to at least two of the following fields: biology, chemistry, computer science, or physics. The major in Mathematics with a Data Science concentration prepares students for a wide variety of jobs, not only in the tech sector but in virtually every sector, since data has become a primary commodity for many different types of businesses.
Outcomes
SLO 1: Students will develop a foundation of knowledge in the major areas of mathematics: calculus, linear algebra, methods of proof, statistical methods, abstract algebra and analysis. SLO 2: Students will develop depth of knowledge in mathematics and statistics with explorations in current and specialized topics at a more advanced level. SLO 3: Students will develop skills for effective and precise communication (both oral and written) of mathematical ideas. SLO 4: Students will develop a foundation in computer programming and in data exploration, visualization, and analysis.
