Finance is the art and science of managing money and offers perspectives and practical techniques for allocating capital and funds. The Finance major prepares students for careers in the fields of wealth management, financial planning, financial management, investment analysis, banking, insurance, real estate, securities data manager, crowdfunding specialist, hedge fund manager, financial analyst, mutual fund manager, Certified Financial Planner (CFP), consultant, credit analyst, treasurer, and chief financial officer (CFO) or comptroller. It prepares students for graduate work in finance or other areas of business, providing the quantitative foundations for entrepreneurship and financial innovations. Studying Finance develops planning and analytical skills, improving personal and professional decision making. Finance graduates, especially trained investment analysts, are in high demand in the dynamic global and domestic marketplaces, earning above average salaries. Our Finance graduates acquire an excellent grounding in theory, balanced with experience in hands-on market trading. The Finance program at Radford University encourages interaction with the Financial Management Association (FMA) and Student Managed Investment Portfolio Organization (SMIPO), training for professional certificates (CFA/CFP), and traveling to financial centers with Finance faculty. This major focuses on both professional and commercial applications of finance, with special emphasis on professionalism, ethical decision-making, analytics, and innovation.
