Be sure as you are preparing to transfer credits from community college to liberal studies at Longwood that you look at the course equivalency list for your general curriculum courses at Longwood. You need to be sure you take the correct options offered to you at your community college. This list of equivalency courses can be found at this webpage: http://www.longwood.edu/registrar/transfer-of-credits/transfer-equivalency-system/ . For instance, you could take a biology course, but if it is not the correct course number, it will not transfer into the liberal studies program. It's important to complete your SPED 202 and EDUC 245 courses in the first semester at Longwood in the Liberal Studies-Concentration in Special Education program. You will take the Introduction to Special Education course (SPED 202) with your special education advisor, who will stay with you in the journey throughout our program. During this first year, we will talk about also getting into teacher prep through the Office of Teacher Preparation to get ready for your first field experiences. It is important to note that you will have at least one course in special education each semester you are at Longwood. As a transfer student at Longwood, we will work to get you ready for your partnership semester by the second year in the program, if you are entering as a junior. We will suggest that you take the VCLA soon after you enter the program. This way you will be ready for courses only offered in the fall of the year related to your first field placement in the schools (SPED 305, 321, 323). You will also take SPED 325, Introduction to Assessment during the second year in the special education program. We will work closely with you to customize your schedule to map out your progression of special education courses complimented by your liberal studies major studies courses and the required Civitae pillar courses to keep you on track toward your undergraduate degree in Liberal Studies-Concentration in Special Education. We are a 5-year program where you take many other special education courses and earn your Master of Science in Education/Special Education by the end of your 5th year while you are also teaching in your first classroom.
