The Health and Physical Education emphasis does not lead to licensure but it will give a comprehensive look at the area of Health and Physical Education. The program prepares reflective practitioners who collaborate effectively with families, colleagues, and other professionals, and who affect positive outcomes for students. The Health and Physical Education emphasis enhances the development of non-licensure professionals and provides the scope content that will allow the graduate to be well positioned to have a solid understanding of the principles of Health and Physical Education without licensure. Considerations for Selecting Degree The educational studies major at Lynchburg is for students passionate about education and interested in flexible career paths. Whether you’re interested in graduate school, working with education policy and administration, or future teacher licensure, our educational studies major will be a great fit to launch into your career with confidence. The health and physical education emphasis is for students who are passionate about promoting wellness and physical activity but do not plan to seek teacher licensure upon graduation. The program covers human anatomy and physiology, nutrition, exercise physiology, and the psychology of sport and exercise alongside key active teaching methods. You’ll learn the differences in teaching various sports, fitness skills, and outdoor recreation and gain valuable hands-on experience through health labs and clinics. This emphasis will help you become an advocate for the well-being of diverse student bodies and make a difference in the community you serve. Graduates are well-positioned to serve in the health and wellness field, community health organizations, wellness programs, nontraditional education, and other settings.
