Considerations for Selecting Degree The Education program is designed to provide the courses in general education for the student who plans to complete a baccalaureate degree program in teacher education at a four-year institution. Students who plan to enter this program should be aware of the opportunities for professional employment in the several specialized areas of teaching and counseling. Students are required to participate in observation and practicum experiences in approved or licensed early childhood/primary/secondary settings. A Criminal Record Clearance/Sex Offender Registry check is required for placement at the student’s expense. Students should see the program head for a list of convictions that will prevent employment. Students will be expected to complete a tuberculosis test before placement as well.
Considerations When Selecting Courses

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and Germanna Community College within your first year
Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses Students in this program should enroll in SDV 100, ENG 111, MTH 154 (or higher), HIS 121, and BIO 101 their first seemster. Observation and practicum experiences in an approved public-school setting are required. Transfer Guidance Element What You Need to Know
Associate Transfer Degree Completion Students who transfer with a completed Associate degree will be awarded SDV 100 and will have their transcript evaluated for other individual course transfer. Students who transfer with a completed Bachelor degree from a U.S. college or university will be awarded SDV 100, ENG 111 and ENG 112. The transcript will be evaluated for other individual course transfer.

Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School Students earning an associate degree while in high school are not eligible for guaranteed admission programs. All courses are evaluated and transferred as applicable to your degree.
