BA in Educational Studies - Disability Studies Emphasis

The Disability Studies emphasis is a non-licensure track major. The Disability Studies emphasis is designed for students who are interested in the study of education but do not choose to pursue a teaching license. This may include students who wish to pursue an advanced degree in an education-related field but do not necessarily want to teach in a public school or for those who may want to continue in a licensure program at a later date. Three emphases are offered: elementary education, disability studies, and health and physical education. Considerations for Selecting Degree The educational studies major at Lynchburg is for students passionate about education and interested in flexible career paths. Whether you’re interested in graduate school, working with education policy and administration, or future teacher licensure, our educational studies major will be a great fit to launch into your career with confidence. The disability studies emphasis teaches students how to understand diverse needs and about educational strategies for individuals with disabilities. Beyond that, you’ll learn how to serve as an advocate for students with disabilities and create more inclusive classrooms. You’ll graduate knowing how to build supportive learning plans based on individual needs and work toward those goals, along with how best to form partnerships through hands-on learning opportunities. Whether you’ve got your eye on advanced studies, advocacy, policy development, or support roles in schools or community organizations, you’ll be well-prepared to promote equity, inclusion, and positive outcomes for individuals with disabilities.
