BA in Educational Studies - Elementary Education Emphasis

The Educational Studies Major is a non-licensure track major. The Educational Studies Major is designed for students who are interested in the study of education but do not choose to pursue a teaching license. This may include students who wish to pursue an advanced degree in an education-related field but do not necessarily want to teach in a public school, or those who may want to continue in a licensure program at a later date. Three emphases are offered: elementary education, disability studies, and health and physical education. Whether you’re interested in graduate school, working with education policy and administration, or future teacher licensure, our educational studies major will be a great fit to launch into your career with confidence. In choosing the elementary education emphasis, you’re setting out to learn best practices for teaching young students and helping them grow into a lifelong love of learning. Key courses in this program will focus on creating effective assessments and instructional strategies for reading, writing, and language development in the primary and upper elementary grades, as well as understanding how to meet the needs of a diverse student population. Please be aware that the Elementary Education emphasis does not lead to state licensure. However, whether your future involves further education, a role in educational policy or administration, or direct work with children outside the classroom, you’ll graduate ready to make a positive contribution to the education and development of young learners. |
