Considerations for Selecting Degree The major in music provides a foundation of music studies rooted in both thinking and practice in music theory, music history/literature, applied music, ensemble, orchestration, and conducting.The degree culminates in the presentation of a forty-minute lecture recital typically given during the Junior and Senior year. Students may also seek an education endorsement.

Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses
Doing More With Your Degree Students majoring in music have the opportunity to choose to add a music teaching endorsement. Department minors also include art and theater. Program involves hands-on, real-world applications of team-work, problem-solving, planning, organization, analysis, communication, design, logistics, engineering, fabrication, management, marketing and public relations to prepare for graduate studies and professional careers. Local, national and international performance and touring opportunities.
Program Successes & Highlights Music majors often add the education endorsement. Students are provided a broad range of opportunities for study and particpation in both performance and music courses. Students often provide leadership in educational and cultural experiences in music to the wider community.

Associate Transfer Degree Completion Completion of an Associates of Arts or Associate if Science degree will fullfill all general education requirements at Wise with the exception of foreign language and four cultural activity credits. Depending on the major of choice, some general education courses may fulfil major requirements.

If you have a completed Associate of Arts or Science degree complete, you will be able to step right into your major and begin the work on completing your bachelor's degree at UVA WISE.
Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School If you have a completed Associate of Arts or Science degree complete, you will be able to step right into your major and begin the work on completing your bachelor's degree at UVA WISE.
Credit for Prior Learning UVA Wise accepts CLEP, AP, IB and Cambridge credits for students who meet specified scores.

    • Students that take more than 18 hour per semester are charged $250 per credit hour but no additional fees apply.

  • You may be eligible for additional financial aid from Federal, State, and Local sources. Military education benefits are not considered in determining eligibility for federal financial aid.
