Bachelor of ArtsHollins University
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program in Music provides a thorough preparation in performance, music theory, and music history within the context and breadth of Hollins’s liberal arts tradition. Committed students in the music major will find themselves well prepared for graduate study and flexible enough to pursue many career avenues. Students may choose to concentrate their studies in the areas of performance, music history, or theory and composition.
Outcomes
SLO 1: Students will be able to identify musical elements, take them down at dictation, and perform them at sight. SLO 2: Students will be able to analyze musical structure. SLO 3: Students will be able to identify music of various historical periods, analyze compositional techniques employed, and place music in a larger, historical context. SLO 4: Students will be able to demonstrate progress towards mastery of applied technique on their instrument, as well as demonstrate knowledge of appropriate musical literature for the given instrument.

Associate Transfer Degree Completion | Completion of a qualifying VCCS associate degree program will guarantee completion of the general education component of the Hollins undergraduate curriculum but may not fulfill specific departmental requirements or prerequisites needed for the major. |
Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School | Students earning an associate degree while in high school are not eligible for guaranteed admission programs and must complete general education courses. All courses are evaluated and transferred as applicable to your degree. |
Credit for Prior Learning | We accept AP and IB results for college credit if the score earned meets college expectations. Transfer credits will be considered for CLEP (College Level Examination Program) on an individual basis for examinations if Hollins offers a comparable course. |
