Recreation Management, BS

Bachelor of Science
George Mason University

Three concentrations are offered: one in Parks and Outdoor Recreation, one in Therapeutic Recreation, and an Individualized Program. Parks and Outdoor Recreation graduates plan and implement recreation programs locally and nationally, lead outdoor activities, and manage the uses of natural and cultural resources. • The Parks and Outdoor Recreation concentration is for students who have a passion for the outdoors and understand the importance of parks and recreation in enhancing the quality of life in local communities and providing much needed opportunities for people to lead healthier and more active lives.
  • The Therapeutic Recreation concentration is for students who have an interest in the use of recreational activities as therapeutic tools to improve the physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being of individuals suffering from a disability, chronic illness, or injury that results in their limited or compromised functioning.
  • The Individualized Studies concentration is for students who wish to pursue a customized program where they can learn the many ways in which recreation management can promote a healthy lifestyle and environment and where they can also develop specialized expertise in a complementary area or related minor that speaks to their passion.
