The Department of Accounting and Finance offers a program of study to prepare students for professional accounting and finance careers in public, private and nonprofit organizations. The programs of study also prepare students for graduate study and for professional certifications.

Outcomes

The pre-business phase consists of 60 credit hours of coursework consisting primarily of the General Education curriculum. Students are required to maintain minimum GPA of 2.25 in the pre-business phase before being admitted to the Business Phase.

Students are required to complete "Pre -Business course phase and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.25 before being admitted into the Business Phase.

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year

Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses Majors are required to earn at least a grade of a "C" in ENGL 110 and ENGL 111 and all Business courses.

Associate Transfer Degree Completion Completion of the a transfer-oriented associate degree program (AA, AS, AA&S), will typically guarantee completion of the general education program. Completion may not fulfill all specific requirements needed for the major.

Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School Students earning a transfer-oriented associate degree (AA, AS, AA&S) while in high school are eligible for guaranteed admission programs . All courses of earned grade of "C" or better are evaluated and transferred as applicable to your degree.
Credit for Prior Learning We accept AP. IB and CLEP for credit. Credit by CLEP (College Level Examination Program) must be submitted upon admission to Virginia State University. The number of credit hours a student may receive by CLEP examination will not exceed twelve semester hours. The same requirements established by the American Council on Education (ACE) will be used for awarding credit. Students will receive credit for grades of A, B, and C, earned on the examination.

Is This College Right For Me? VSU is a small Historically Black College and University (HBCU) that offers a traditional college experience. We are located on a spacious 236-acre suburban campus that overlooks the Appomattox River. We we 25 miles south of Richmond and easy driving distance of Washington, DC, Virginia Beach and Roanoke. We have residence halls that feature the comforts of home, and many opportunities to make friends and explore career options with are Career Services Center and interests through clubs and activities.

Applying for Guaranteed Admissions An applicant transferring from a Virginia Community College, who completed the requirements for the Associate in Arts (A.A.), or Associate in Science (A.S.) degree in the College Parallel/College Transfer Program, will guaranteed admission with possible junior status at VSU upon admission. An applicant who has not completed the requirements for a transferrable degree may be admitted based on a course-by-course credit evaluation. Applicants with the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree and applicants from other states will be evaluated based on a course-by-course method.
