The Health Services Management Program is organized around a core of lower level general education courses, a core of business management courses taken in the intermediate years, and further generic orientation to the unique managerial processes in health services industry in the form of an internship and on-the-job experiential learning in the last year.

Considerations for Selecting Degree | The curriculum is relevant to the healthcare setting. The faculty members have many years of experiences in online teaching and learning, and they are certified online instructors. The program is offered fully online to provide flexibility for students who are balancing personal and work responsibilities with academia. The program offers an internship in the last year at approved healthcare organizations through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between NSU and the healthcare organization. The internship is a planned and supervised learning experience gained through direct observation and actual practice of administrative and management responsibilities and processes. |
Considerations When Selecting Courses |
Students must take HSM 300 and HSM 300l as prerequisites for all the HSM courses. With the exception of HSM 470 and HSM 497, students must complete all the other courses in the curriculum before taking HSM 494-Health Services Management Internship. Additionally, students must earn a grade of C or higher in all accounting and economics courses before they can take HSM 331-Health Financial Management.

Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses | This program is organized around a core of lower level general education courses, a core of business and management courses, as well as a health services management internship in the last year. A grade of C or higher is required for all HSM courses. The program curriculum emphasizes the business side of healthcare, and graduates will be knowledgeable in management and business principles to enter the workforce in a cadre of healthcare facilities. |
Doing More With Your Degree | Graduates of the HSM program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are eligible to apply for admission into the Master of Healthcare Administration degree program at NSU. Students from other disciplines such as nursing have the opportunity to add HSM as a double major. Students who are enrolled in the Interdisciplinary degree program have the option to add HSM courses as a concentration to fulfill their degree requirements. All students who are enrolled in the HSM program are assigned an advisor to mentor and advise them as they matriculate through the program. |
