English (Minor)

Minor
Randolph-Macon College

Through the study and creation of literature, English majors can deepen their understanding of human nature, society, and history, while at the same time honing their powers of expression. The major thus caters to a wide variety of students, from those with a lifelong love of language and reading, to those who write poetry and fiction, to those eager to understand how language may be used to entertain, move, or persuade. English majors inevitably spend much time thinking and writing about the stuff of literature - abiding matters such as love, death, and power - but the insights they will take away about the wellsprings of human action, along with the skill to promote their views forcefully, have repeatedly shown themselves valuable in an array of professions as various as law, advertising, teaching, and politics.

Considerations for Selecting Degree Please note: Students enrolled at Randolph-Macon College attend classes primarily Monday-Friday between 8 am - 5 pm with very few evening courses. The large majority of RMC coursework is offered in-person and on campus. A very limited selection of online courses is offered in summer sessions. No more than one half of the courses on a major or minor can be transferred; at least one-half of the semester hours of the major or minor must be taken at Randolph-Macon.
Considerations When Selecting Courses

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and Randolph-Macon College within your first year
