The purpose of the BS in Sport Management is to advance the conduct of sport by preparing students with both specific skills and broad contextual knowledge to be effective managers in the sports industry. The sports industry includes professional sports leagues and franchises, elite amateur sport organizations, collegiate teams, governance organizations and conferences, private ventures, corporate entities in sport and fitness, not-for-profit sports organizations, federations and foundations, entrepreneurial enterprises, sports media, sports facilities, sports agencies (marketing/management), governmental agencies, sports tourism and community/school-based sport. Students will learn to plan, implement, and evaluate sports activities. They will be able to research and analyze specific sports industry data. Graduates will be able to communicate effectively in sports settings and manage sports events and facilities. They will also be able to lead individuals, teams and volunteers in the aforementioned domain. Graduates will be able to provide effective customer service while also being able to sell and promote sports products. George Mason University serves one of the nation’s most diverse populations. Dynamic growing and committed to excellence, GMU has amassed a significant collection of qualified faculty and interested students in Sport Management. The program develops students’ professional knowledge, skills and dispositions through a curriculum guided by NASSM and COSMA content standards. The program includes abundant opportunities for experiential learning in sport settings.
