BA in Physics

Bachelor of Arts
Hollins University

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program in Physics seeks to integrate natural science with mathematical skills, developing students who can analyze and examine core principles of physics and theories about the nature of the universe. The program supports students in expanding their knowledge of matter, motion, space, and time. Physics students develop an understanding of energy and matter as fundamental elements of the universe, explore classical and modern physics using necessary mathematical skills, and develop problem-solving skills using principles and tools learned in mechanics, thermodynamics, quantum physics, and optics.

Outcomes

SLO 1: Students will recognize and apply physical concepts to the analysis and solution of quantitative problems. SLO 2: Students will identify and apply foundational concepts in physics to non-numerical problems. SLO 3: Students will successfully execute physics experiments in the laboratory classroom (facility with instrumentation), analysis of results, and communication of scientific information. SLO 4: Students will communicate the results of physics experiments in a clear, concise, and complete manner.

Transfer Guidance Element What You Need to Know
Associate Transfer Degree Completion Completion of a qualifying VCCS associate degree program will guarantee completion of the general education component of the Hollins undergraduate curriculum but may not fulfill specific departmental requirements or prerequisites needed for the major.

Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School Students earning an associate degree while in high school are not eligible for guaranteed admission programs and must complete general education courses. All courses are evaluated and transferred as applicable to your degree.
Credit for Prior Learning We accept AP and IB results for college credit if the score earned meets college expectations. Transfer credits will be considered for CLEP (College Level Examination Program) on an individual basis for examinations if Hollins offers a comparable course.
Did You Know That...
  • Completing your Associate transfer degree post-high school satisfies all lower division general education requirements and increases the chance of completing your bachelor's degree?
  • Exceeding 3 years or 90 credits at your community college means you may have exhausted your financial aid at that college and have limited your future financial aid at: Hollins University
