Program Guidance Element What You Need to Know
Considerations for Selecting Degree Allied Health is defined as the segment of the healthcare field "that delivers services involving the identification, evaluation and prevention of diseases and disorders; dietary and nutrition services; and rehabilitation and health systems management," according to the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions. Those in this field often work collaboratively with doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other medical specialists.
Considerations When Selecting Courses

Allied Health Studies combines a foundation in biology and chemistry with applied coursework drawn from social work, psychology, recreational therapy, and sociology — preparing students for the wide range of professions that sit alongside medicine and nursing in patient care. The major builds core science knowledge through human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and nutrition, then layers in public health principles, medical ethics, and statistics. Upper-level electives let students specialize in areas like clinical psychology, substance abuse, grief and loss, or recreational therapy for specific populations. A required internship gives students hands-on experience to confirm their career direction before graduation. The curriculum meets most prerequisites for graduate study in nursing, nutrition and dietetics, occupational therapy, physical therapy assistance, radiation therapy, health education, and related entry-level master's programs.
