In Marymount's B.S. in Biochemistry program, students will obtain a broad background in biology and a firm foundation in chemistry, mathematics, and physics. The program prepares students for professional school (medicine, dentistry, or veterinary medicine) and graduate school in biochemistry, molecular biology, or another biological science discipline. Graduates will find employment opportunities in university research programs or industrial and government laboratories.

We offer many opportunities for research in science labs working side by side with our faculty. Considerations When Selecting Courses |
Biology is a major with several series courses required along the way. It is in your best interest to complete as many of these as possible prior to starting the program at MU. It is recommended that you complete BIO 101 & BIO 102, BIO 205, BIO 256, CHM 111 & CHM 112 and MTH 261. To be further prepared, CHM 241 & CHM 245, CHM 242 & CHM 246 can also be taken. Another nice course sequence to bring with you is PHY 231 & PHY 232.

Doing More With Your Degree | Due to the interdisciplinary nature of biochemistry, it is usually not necessary to minor as the curriculum leads itself to strong foundations in chemistry, physics, biology, and math. Students who are interested in attending medical school or other careers in the health industry, might transition into our Masters of Science in Medical Sciences, which is a one year program that mimics the first year of medical school through advanced study in biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, and neuroscience. |
