The Kinesiology program is designed to provide students with a foundation in the sciences with emphasis in exercise, health, injury prevention and care, as well as sport sciences. Students enrolled in this program are prepared for entrance into health-related fitness and sport science professions. Graduates of this program are eligible to sit for certification examinations offered by the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and to apply for advanced study in a variety of applied health science and allied health programs (Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, etc.). Students selecting the Health and Human Performance concentration will gain specialized knowledge and skills pertaining to exercise physiology with healthy and diseased populations as well as strength and conditioning. They will be employable as strength and conditioning professionals, exercise physiologists and health and fitness professionals. Students also will be prepared to continue their education in graduate school.

Considerations When Selecting Courses |
To ensure timely graduation, complete Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, Fundamentals of Chemistry I, and General Physics I. In addition, complete Kinesiology elective credits that can be transferred and applied to your major. Completing the four sciences courses and kinesiology elective credits will allow you to transfer to Longwood and finish the Kinesiology degree in 2 or 2.5 years.

Doing More With Your Degree | Kinesiology students can pair their major with a health education minor or Pk-12 licensure minor that will allow them a pathway to earn teacher licensure after finishing their degree. Completing the Pk-12 licensure minor allows the student to be eligible to enter Longwood’s fully online master’s in education with a concentration in health and physical education as well. |

Is This College Right For Me? | Longwood is a mid-sized university where students enjoy the highest percentage of classes taught by full-time professors in Virginia and a residential academic community that offers students the full university experience. Applying for Guaranteed Admissions | Students transferring from an institution with a transfer agreement are guaranteed admission to Longwood when they have finished their transfer-oriented associate's degree (Associate of Arts and/or Science) and earned a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Students who are admitted prior to earning the transfer-oriented associate's degree (Associate of Arts and/or Science) and complete the degree before enrolling at Longwood also will receive the articulation benefits upon submission of an official transcript. |
