Considerations for Selecting Degree	A Chemistry B.S. - teacher prep degree prepares you to teach chemistry at the High School Level. One hundred percent of our Chemistry B.S. - teacher prep graduates acquire teaching positions. A chart showing recent placements is here
Considerations When Selecting Courses	The B.A. or B.S. degree must include Chemistry 221, Chemistry 230, Chemistry 240 or 430X), Chemistry 312, Chemistry 330, and all prerequisites. Teacher preparation students must also complete ESCI 111. Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year Connect with an advisor at your community college and Emory & Henry University within your first year via College Connect
Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses	Departmental requirements: Except for the senior project and the support courses, teacher preparation students should complete the above requirements for the B.S. degree or the B.A. degree. Satisfactory performance on departmental assessment exams is also required. It is important to consult with Neff Education Center at Emory & Henry College as early as possible. Student teaching will require access to transportation.
Doing More With Your Degree	There are many opportunities for undergraduate research with faculty at Emory & Henry College. Our students have also been successful in applying for extramural summer research opportunities at larger university and national laboratories. Emory & Henry College also has an alumni funded program to support these opportunities in the natural sciences.
Program Successes & Highlights	The Chemistry Department works closely with the Neff Education Center to help our per-service teachers be successful -- after all, the Neff Education Center is right around the corner from the Chemistry Department. Our American Chemical Society Chapter has received numerous awards and our chemistry faculty have been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges and the State Council of High Education for Virginia. What If I Have An Associate Degree Or Credit For Prior Learning?

Transfer Guidance Element	What You Need to Know
Associate Transfer Degree Completion	Completion of the Uniform Certificate of General Studies or an AA/AS degree program will guarantee completion of the 'Think, Understand & Create' liberal arts core component of the E&H undergraduate curriculum but may not fulfill specific departmental requirements or prerequisites needed for the major. Other elements of the core curriculum may need to be met if not taken as part of the AA/AS degree. Students will be required to complete CORE 200 and CORE 300 at E&H. Students completing at least 56 credits following high school graduation but before transferring to E&H are exempt from CORE 100, CORE 103, and Emory Abroad/Global Citizenship.
Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School	Only students who have completed college credit elsewhere following high school graduation will be exempt from the Core Curriculum requirement. Completion of courses that satisfy elements of the Care & Cultural Competency and Think, Understand & Create elements of the curriculum will be awarded equivalent credit with an earned grade of C or better. Students completing the Uniform Certificate of General Studies or an AA/AS degree program concurrently with their high school diploma will not be exempt from CORE 100, CORE 103, or Emory Abroad/Global Citizenship.
Credit for Prior Learning	Emory & Henry awards credit for AP, IB, and CLEP. Please see the credit equivalency charts to determine the needed scores for course credit. Currently, we do not award academic credit for industry or military training.
