BA in Spanish

Bachelor of Arts
Hollins University

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program in Spanish allows you, as a student, to express yourself in oral and written Spanish. We strive to establish intellectual dialogues that will help you understand and appreciate the cultures and values of the Spanish-speaking world, and develop and exhibit strong analytical skills. As part of the requirements for the major, Spanish students like you have the exciting option to study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country of their choosing. Hollins has affiliated programs in Argentina, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and three cities in Spain: Seville, Alicante, and Barcelona, through Spanish Studies Abroad. Internships can give you, as a Spanish major, an advantage in today’s competitive job market. The opportunity to work abroad can be arranged at the Spanish Studies Abroad Argentina and Spain sites. Spanish majors are employed in a variety of fields such as business, marketing, medicine, law, government, international relations, and education. Spanish majors are also life-long learners who continue to enjoy Hispanic and Latinx cultural contributions in music, film, and literature in the United States and abroad well after they graduate from Hollins.

Outcomes

SLO 1: Students will be able to communicate orally and in writing in Spanish. SLO 2: Students will develop critical thinking skills in a second language. SLO 3: Students will demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of at least one Hispanic culture.
