The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program in Film provides a thorough grounding in the field, balancing instruction in film and video production with courses in the history, aesthetics, and cultural import of these arts. The major culminates in a senior capstone consisting of a filmmaking, research, or screenplay project. Skills developed in the Film major can be applied to careers in film and television, the visual arts, advertising, journalism, advertising, marketing, branding, public relations, publishing, teaching, and others.

Outcomes

SLO 1: Students majoring in film will demonstrate fundamental knowledge of film vocabulary, history and critical methods. SLO 2: Students majoring in film will display basic video and/or film production competency. SLO 3: Students majoring in film will exhibit proficiency in writing and conversing about films on an academic level.

Program Successes & Highlights	Hollins film majors have had their work showcased at many impressive venues: Sundance Film Festival, Utah; Virginia Film Festival, Charlottesville; Our Voices Film Festival, Vancouver, Canada; Ocean City Film Festival, Maryland; Silver Screen for Short Films, St. Petersburg, FL; and Transnational Queer Underground, Berlin, Germany.

Associate Transfer Degree Completion	Completion of a qualifying VCCS associate degree program will guarantee completion of the general education component of the Hollins undergraduate curriculum but may not fulfill specific departmental requirements or prerequisites needed for the major.
Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School	Students earning an associate degree while in high school are not eligible for guaranteed admission programs and must complete general education courses. All courses are evaluated and transferred as applicable to your degree.
Credit for Prior Learning	We accept AP and IB results for college credit if the score earned meets college expectations. Transfer credits will be considered for CLEP (College Level Examination Program) on an individual basis for examinations if Hollins offers a comparable course.
