Earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at UVA Wise will prepare you to be a skilled, kind, and caring nurse in a variety of clinical settings. In 2019, 100 percent of UVA Wise graduates in nursing passed their licensure exams.

Is This Degree Right For Me? Nursing students should be prepared to take prerequisite courses in introductory biology/chemistry, anatomy and physiology, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and statistics (and foreign language if not complete already).

Students interested in pursuing a nursing major must meet requisites and apply for admission with the department.

What Should I Consider When Selecting Courses

Philosophy, statistics, introductory biology and anatomy and physiology I and II are prerequisites for this program of study.

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year

Are there other program requirements beyond specific courses? Students interested in the nursing are encouraged to pursue prerequisite course in philosophy, statistics, anatomy and physiology and sociology to better prepare themselves for the major.

Also excellent preparation for various advanced degree programs including the Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Masters in Business Administration (MBA), and as medical doctors, nurse practitioners, and certified registered nurse anesthetists.

Associate Transfer Degree Completion Completion of an Associates of Arts or Associate if Science degree will fullfill all general education requirements at Wise with the exception of foreign language and four cultural activity credits. Depending on the major of choice, some general education courses may fulfil major requirements.
