Marymount's information technology (IT) program recognizes the role of technology in all aspects of today's world, in business, in society, and in our personal lives. The IT program provides a solid foundation of all of the parts of technology that are essential to understand how technology is used today and how it may be applied in the future. This includes defining requirements, developing software applications, building and administering complex computer infrastructure on the premises and in the cloud, and successfully managing IT projects. It also offers students Knowledge and experience in a specialized area of technology or its application leading to jobs in those fields. Students can either select a designated embedded minor in a particular area of technology or tailor the program to their needs by selecting five elective courses to further the current integration of business and technology. Students may select minors from the IT program, the business program, and the economics program in the School of Business and Technology; from the graphics and media design program or digital writing and narrative design program in the School of Design, Arts and Humanities; or from the criminal justice or mathematics programs in the School of Science, Mathematics, and Education.

Considerations When Selecting Courses |
A technical interest is important but do not think you cannot work in the technology field without a strong background in coding. There are many other jobs available, from business analyst to help desk support to web development, and we will take you from where you are and prepare you for one of these positions. It is recommended that you take the following courses to prepare for transfer: ITE 115; ITN 100 or ITN 101; ITE 221; ITN 260 and BUS 100, if you have the opportunity as they will prepare you well for beginning your journey to the high-paying jobs in the the IT field

Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses | Information Technology (IT) is a degree for students who have a technical focus but who may not be strong in mathematics, as required by many computer science programs. It prepares students for working in technical support positions in government and industry, including in a variety of positions that require knowledge in technology and business. |
Doing More With Your Degree | There are several options to do a double major in areas such as Cybersecurity or Graphics and Media Design. There are opportunities to specialize in over 20 technical and business majors, all of which offer opportunities for future employment in the technology field. There is also the possibility of an accelerated master’s degree including a MS in Information Technology, MS in Cybersecurity, and an MBA. You can enroll in the program in fall, spring, or summer, providing the maximum flexibility to continue your educational journey. |
