Preparing students to make a global impact in a $490 billion industry, the Sport Management Program offers opportunities to explore a variety of subfields—sport management, coaching, sport and American culture, sport and conflict resolution, sport and computer game design, and sport analytics.

Considerations for Selecting Degree
  • This program examines the operational and business aspects of the sports industry and covers areas such as marketing, finance, ethics, law, event planning, and program leadership.
  • Students will complete a practicum and an internship in which they will apply their university coursework to real-life situations and complete a project at their site. These experiences will help students launch their professional careers. Internship placements can be within park systems, government agencies, community settings, or other environments.

    Considerations When Selecting Courses

    • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year

    • Students must maintain an overall 2.5 GPA.
    Doing More With Your Degree Earn an Accelerated Master's degree in Sport and Recreation Studies. Apply by the beginning of junior year.
    Program Successes & Highlights Graduates will qualify for managerial jobs throughout the industry, from college athletics to sport franchises, to event venues, nonprofit/athletic associations, and more. Alumni have gone on to work for the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Washington Commanders, New York Knicks, D.C. United, United States Tennis Association, Duke University Athletics, New York Mets, and Monumental Sports Entertainment.

    Associate Transfer Degree Completion Transfer associate degree completion is recommended. RBC and VCCS students completing A.A., A.A.& S., A.F.A, or A.S. degrees receive a lower-level Mason Core waiver.
    Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School Students who earn an associate degree through high school dual enrollment should still apply as freshmen and are not eligible for GAA. College coursework will be evaluated for transferable course credit.

    • You may be eligible for additional financial aid from Federal, State, and Local sources. Military education benefits are not considered in determining eligibility for federal financial aid. Everyone is therefore encouraged to apply for federal financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), because many will qualify for additional educational funds like Pell Grants, worth over $5,500/yr.
