The Department of History and Philosophy offers a history major for the Bachelor of Arts degree. Within the history major, there are two concentrations: public history and intellectual history/philosophy. The department also offers minors in history, philosophy and religious studies that are open to all students. Students who have studied history and/or philosophy at UVA Wise have successfully pursued many different careers including law, journalism, museum curator, archives, teaching, government service, and business.

Considerations for Selecting Degree	The history major consists of all history courses and students can choose to add a public history or intellectual history concentration. Students will learn how to be an engaged, informed citizen and contributing member of their community while developing skills that will keep them competitive in today’s constantly evolving workplace.
Considerations When Selecting Courses	There are no specific course requirements prior to entering this program of study. Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses
Doing More With Your Degree	Students may also add a concentration in Intellectual or Public History or a minor area of study including those in the department (history, philosophy and religious studies), as well as interdisiplinary minors in Appalachian studies and women's studies. History majors learn writing skills, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, communication and presentation skills, how to analyze and interpret a variety of sources, and how to understand political, social, and economic issues at the local, national, and international levels.

Associate Transfer Degree Completion	Completion of an Associates of Arts or Associate if Science degree will fullfill all general education requirements at Wise with the exception of foreign language and four cultural activity credits. Depending on the major of choice, some general education courses may fulfil major requirements. If you have a completed Associate of Arts or Science degree complete, you will be able to step right into your major and begin the work on completing your bachelor's degree at UVA WISE.
Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School	If you have a completed Associate of Arts or Science degree complete, you will be able to step right into your major and begin the work on completing your bachelor's degree at UVA WISE.
Credit for Prior Learning	UVA Wise accepts CLEP, AP, IB and Cambridge credits for students who meet specified scores.

New Student Fees
- New Student Fees of $2750 apply to every student and includes Student Information System, Student Activity, and Technology fees.
Part Time Students
- Students that take less than 12 credits hour per semester are charged $250 per credit hour as well student fees.
- Students that take more than 18 hour per semester are charged $250 per credit hour but no additional fees apply.

You may be eligible for additional financial aid from Federal, State, and Local sources. Military education benefits are not considered in determining eligibility for federal financial aid. Everyone is therefore encouraged to apply for federal financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), because many will qualify for additional educational funds like Pell Grants, worth over $5,500/yr.
