Nursing-BSN

BS in Nursing
Old Dominion University

Nursing is a rapidly changing, highly rewarding profession. Today's nurse must have a strong academic background, balanced with deep, nurturing values to deliver quality healthcare and shape the future of the profession. Today's nurse must understand the importance of developing partnerships within the community to provide health care to its constituents, and understand individuals' cultural and genetic differences. Today's nurse must also understand the interdisciplinary nature of the modern health care team and learn to work effectively within the team environment. Old Dominion University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is the program for today's nurse. There are three programs within our BSN degree programs. The Prelicensure Program is ideal for students from a variety of educational backgrounds: high school graduates, those with associate's degrees, bachelor's degrees in fields other than nursing, and military and civilians who are making career changes. The Post-licensure track is for those who are already licensed as an RN and who want to advance their career by earning a BSN. The Post-licensure program has been successfully delivering quality nursing education to RNs at a distance since 1987. Lastly, the Concurrent Enrollment program is an entry-level BSN program that allows students to complete their degree while remaining in their community. The Concurrent Enrollment program blends ODU RN-BSN course work with the AAS curriculum thus, each semester students will have a schedule that includes AAS nursing courses at the affiliated institution and online ODU RN-BSN courses.

Transfer Guidance Element What You Need to Know
Associate Transfer Degree Completion Completion of the general education certificate or a transfer-oriented associate degree program will guarantee completion of the University Core general education component of the ODU undergraduate curriculum but may not fulfill specific departmental requirements or prerequisites needed for the major.

Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School
Credit for Prior Learning The Office of Prior Learning exists to aid ODU students in translating their professional work knowledge into academic credit. Through the use of various mechanisms, we are able to offer students the opportunity to have their prior learning assessed and applied for academic credit. This path may save the students both time and money as they work toward their degree. If you have military experience, please use our course by course equivalency tool to see how your experiences will transfer.
Did You Know That...
  • Completing your Associate transfer degree post-high school satisfies all lower division general education requirements and increases the chance of completing your bachelor's degree?
  • Exceeding 3 years or 90 credits at your community college means you may have exhausted your financial aid at that college and have limited your future financial aid at: Old Dominion University
