The study of political sciences helps students understand the complicated issues involved - both historically and today - and prepares them for graduate work and careers in politics and related fields.

Considerations for Selecting Degree	Prospective students should have an active interest in politics, public affairs and world events.
Program Requirement Notes	Program Requirement Notes This major requires 36.0 hours of coursework. Required Courses: Political Philosophy, American Government, Global Politics, Comparative Politics, American Foreign Policy, American President and Congress. Required Electives: US Civil Rights and Liberties or Genocide and the Holocaust. Electives Selected From : 12.0 hours of electives to be taken from Economics, History, and Philosophy. Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses
Doing More With Your Degree	Students interested in law school should also major or minor in Philosophy. Those interested in public policy should consider a second major or minor in Economics. Students interested in careers in foreign affairs fields should also student languages. Languages are available through the tri-college consortium or through the Acadeum consortium.
Program Successes & Highlights	Recent graduates have been accepted into notable law schools, while others have obtained jobs in foreign and defense policy fields.

Is This College Right For Me?	Sweet Briar has a total enrollment of about 460 students, of which approximately 80 are transfer students. Our average class size is about 12 and the vast majority of our students live on campus.
