The Nurse Aide program prepares individuals to work as a nurse aide, home health aide, or geriatric nurse aide. Students are prepared to fulfill the eligibility requirements to take the National Nurse Aide Assistant Program (NNAAP) exam. Before enrolling in the program, students must meet specific requirements as noted below. Please see the program advisor for assistance. This Nurse Aide program does not qualify for federal financial aid, but ESCC scholarships may be available to students.

Students will be able to: Provide safe, competent care for the patient/family Employ appropriate actions regarding cultural, ethical, legal, and nurse aide values for self and others. Practice within the standards established by the profession, and identify the parameters of accountability.

In addition to general admission requirements established by ESCC, minimum standards for program entry are: Complete application to ESCC High School Diploma or GED Ninth grade reading level and 6th grade math skills Must be 18 years of age or older Must be able to lift forty (40) pounds Completion of Criminal Background Completion of Physical examination with PPD or chest x-ray Current record of immunizations including MMR, Varicella, Tetanus, Hepatitis B and COVID vaccinations

Considerations When Selecting Courses

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and Eastern Shore Community College within your first year via College Connect

Transfer Guidance Element What You Need to Know
Associate Transfer Degree Completion Students must earn 25% of their credits at ESCC for an Associate degree from our institution. Students who transfer to ESCC with a completed Associate degree will be awarded SDV 100 and will have their transcript evaluated for other course transfer. Students who transfer to ESCC with a completed Bachelor degree from a U.S. college or university will be awarded SDV 100, ENG 111 and ENG 112. The transcript will be evaluated for other course transfer.

Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School ESCC does not distinguish between students earning an associate degree concurrently, while in high school, or after high school graduation.
