This powerful, marketable credential is a point of entry into the paralegal profession or law school. Study with the nation's leading legal experts in the nation's capital at GW's Alexandria Education Center. The B.P.S. in Paralegal Studies is an ABA-approved, 60-credit bachelor's degree completion program.

Graduates from GW's Bachelors in Paralegal Studies Program are prepared to enter the workforce as paralegals or apply to law school. Students will enter GW with 60 GenEd transfer credits and complete the remaining 60 credits in their major at GW. Transfer credits can be completed as follows Option 1: Graduate with an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) from NOVA An Associates of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) from NOVA satisfies the Paralegal Studies Program’s General Education Requirements. Option 2: Graduate With an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) & Meet the Following Requirements An Associate of Applied Science (AAS) from NOVA satisfies the Paralegal Studies Program’s General Education if it includes 60 credits in general education courses, as follows: 6 credits in English composition* 3 credits in speech communications or 3 credits in a foreign language* 3 credits in arts and humanities* 3 credits in behavioral or social science* 4 credits in physical or life science with lab* 38 credits in elective courses, which may be completed at any regionally accredited institution.

Associate Transfer Degree Completion

Any student who has earned an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree, has satisfied the Paralegal Studies Program's General Education Requirements.

Any student who has earned an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree or who has sixty (60) undergraduate credits will satisfy the Paralegal Studies Program's General Education Requirements IF the following course requirements are fulfilled.

  • 22 credits in general education courses, taken as follows:
  • 6 credits in English composition*
  • 3 credits in speech communications (introduction to communications or public speaking)* or 3 credits in a foreign language*
  • 3 credits in arts and humanities*
  • 3 credits in behavioral or social science*
  • 4 credits in physical or life science with lab*
  • 3 credits in mathematics (quantitative reasoning or higher)*;
  • and 38 credits in elective courses.

*NOTE: refer to Program Plan for guidance on which courses fulfill this requirment."

Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School

We accept credit from students that complete an Associates degree while in high school. We treat any non-test, college-level credit prior to enrollment at GW as pre-matriculation credit.
