Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Traditional (Pre-licensure) Baccalaureate Completion Track

Nursing offers the Bachelor of Science Degree. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). There are two BSN Nursing tracks offered: 1) The Traditional (pre-licensure) track is a full-time track that can be completed in five (5) semesters. 2) The Online (RN to BSN) track (designed to individuals who have associate degrees or diplomas in nursing) can be completed in (4) five-weeks terms fulltime or (5) five-week terms part-time. Graduates are prepared as generalists in the practice of professional nursing. Upon graduation from the Traditional (pre-licensure) nursing track, individuals are eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN) for Registered Nurses.

Is This Degree Right For Me? The program requires the student completes 500 hours of direct patient care (clinical hours) throughout the program. Clinical shifts vary between weekdays and weekends.
What Should I Consider When Selecting Courses

Transfer students must establish an NSU GPA at least one semester prior to submitting an application to the Nursing Program.

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and Norfolk State University within your first year via College Connect
Are there other program requirements beyond specific courses? A 3.0 GPA is required to apply for entry into the BSN program.

Associate Transfer Degree Completion Completion of the general education certificate or a transfer-oriented associate degree program will guarantee completion of the University Core general education component of the NSU undergraduate curriculum but may not fulfill specific departmental requirements or prerequisites needed for the major.

Credit for Prior Learning We accept AP, IB, and CLEP results for college credit if the score earned meets college expectations.
