This major seeks to prepare students for the “what’s next” in media, sport communication and public relations by focusing on the skills that are fundamental to an effective communicator. Coursework includes a balance of theory and practice with an emphasis on writing, speaking and storytelling in the digital age. This well-balanced major also provides students with instruction and practice in the communication skills that are necessary for success in media, business, public relations and sport communication related careers. Students are well prepared for their careers or for further study in graduate school.

What If I Have An Associate Degree Or Credit For Prior Learning?

Associate Transfer Degree Completion | If student has earned an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science from the community college setting, it will be accepted for transfer credit. Ds will be awarded transfer credit, except for a D in ENG111. |
Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School | Students who complete an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science through dual enrollment credits are treated as first time freshman but have the same rights and privileges of transfer direct from the community college setting. Credit for Prior Learning | Averett accepts CLEP, DANTES, AP, IB and Cambridge credits for students who meet specified scores. Students also have an option to complete a Portfolio course to request consideration to earn University credits for other prior learning. |
