Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing

The Nursing degree is designed to prepare selected students to qualify as contributing members of a healthcare team, rendering direct patient care as beginning practitioners of nursing in a variety of health service organizations. Classroom and clinical experiences will include lifespan from birth to death. Graduates will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Licensure is required in order to be employed as a registered nurse. The nursing program is approved by the State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

Program Requirement Notes

The Nursing Program is a competitive-admissions credential designed to prepare students to sit for the Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure Exam. Nursing has a separate program admission process in addition to BRCC general admissions. BRCC will award applicable transfer credit for courses completed at other post-secondary educational institutions, provided certain criteria are met. Dual Enrollment - Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with HS BRCC will award applicable transfer credit for courses completed at other post-secondary educational institutions, provided certain criteria are met. Credit for Prior Learning The credit for prior learning process allows you to receive credit in a course or specific program of study for: Test Scores for AP, IB, CLEP, University of Cambridge, DSST/DANTES, Credit-by Exam, LPN credit, Transfer of credit from another college/university, Military transfer credit, and Credit through training provided by other programs including American Red Cross, Commonwealth of Virginia, CompTIA, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academies, and many more. If you feel you are eligible for prior learning credit, contact the Advising Center before registering for classes.
