The Career Studies Certificate in Phlebotomy is designed to prepare graduates who collect and process blood and other samples for medical laboratory analysis. Phlebotomists work in hospitals, medical clinics, commercial laboratories and in other settings where blood is collected from patients. The curriculum provides learning experiences in the classroom, laboratory, and at approved clinical affiliates.
Outcomes
Learn the color code of tubes in order to collect a blood sample. Learn the "Order of Draw" in collecting all blood samples. Learn how to perform a venipuncture and skin puncture. Learn organization structure of laboratory sections and hospital departments. Learn how to approach a patient and interact with them. Be able to recognize the regulatory agency guidelines such as OSHA,TJC,CAP. Learn to process, handle, and perform nonblood specimen procedures.
