Considerations for Selecting Degree This program is designed to prepare selected students to qualify as contributing members of the healthcare team, rendering direct patient care as beginning practitioners of practical nursing in a variety of health service facilities.
Considerations When Selecting Courses

Students planning to apply to the Practical Nursing program should take SDV 101, ENG 111, PSY 230, BIO 141, and either HLT 143 or ITE 152 as their first five classes.

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and Germanna Community College within your first year via College Connect
Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses This program has a competitive application process. Students planning to apply to the Practical Nursing program should take SDV 101, ENG 111, PSY 230, BIO 141, and either HLT 143 or ITE 152 as their first five classes. Applicants are expected to have earned a C" or better in all courses attempted in their first five prerequisite courses or equivalent courses. Nursing students must earn at least a "C" in the NSG major courses to remain in the program. The minimum passing grade is 80 (C) in the nursing program."

Transfer Guidance Element What You Need to Know
Associate Transfer Degree Completion Students who transfer with a completed Associate degree will be awarded SDV 100 and will have their transcript evaluated for other individual course transfer. Students who transfer with a completed Bachelor degree from a U.S. college or university will be awarded SDV 100, ENG 111 and ENG 112. The transcript will be evaluated for other individual course transfer.

Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School Students earning an associate degree while in high school are not eligible for guaranteed admission programs. All courses are evaluated and transferred as applicable to your degree.
