Learning Objectives and Outcomes

- Describe relative solubility, vapor pressure, boiling point and surface tension of molecular compounds in terms of intermolecular interactions.
- Quantitatively describe colligative properties with molecular and ionic solutes.
- Calculate the heat absorbed or evolved during a series of temperature changes or phase transitions.
- Interpret phase diagrams.
- Derive a rate law from experimental kinetic data or from a reaction mechanism.
- Use Transition State Theory and the concept of activation energy to discuss reaction rates and the impact of a catalyst on reaction rate.
- Quantitatively describe equilibrium using an equilibrium constant expression.
- Apply Le Chatelier’s Principle to reactions in equilibrium.
- Use Bronsted-Lowry Theory and Lewis Acid-Base Theory to describe acid base reactions.
