The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Public Health is an interdisciplinary degree that prepares you to improve community health and wellness through education, advocacy, and service.

You will learn to promote healthy lifestyles and tackle pressing community health needs, such as chronic disease, substance use addiction, aging populations, mental illness, outbreaks, and disaster preparedness.

This degree will prepare you to enter the public health workforce and/or graduate programs in public health, health education, health promotion, or other health-related fields.

The B.S. in Public Health degree is transfer-friendly. The 2+2 plan has 60 credits eligible for transfer from the Virginia Community College System.
What Is The Impact On My Degree Of Work I Have Already Completed?

Associate Transfer Degree Completion: The completion of the transfer-oriented degree program will satisfy the REAL Curriculum (lower division/general education) requirements. Students will need to complete all other University, college, and departmental requirements in order to obtain the baccalaureate degree from RU.

Dual Enrollment – Completion of Associate Degree in HS: Students completing the associate degree in high school should apply using the freshman application. If admitted, the student will receive the benefits associated with the transferable associate degree (as noted prior).

Credit for Prior Learning: AP, IB, and CLEP are evaluated for credits (based on receipt and evaluation of official scores).

Catalog Year: Students will be subject to the catalog in effect at the time of enrollment at RU unless otherwise requested.

Other Than Classes, Are There Other Program Requirements?

The B.S. in Public Health requires students to complete their Plan of Study with a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA. All program-specific and minor courses require a minimum letter grade of “C” or higher.

All students are required to complete a culminating learning experience through either a 240-hour internship or a research-oriented capstone project under the supervision of a faculty member.
