The Bachelor of Arts and Fine Arts (BA/BFA) program in Dance seeks to provide students with the necessary skills to participate, understand, and even thrive in the world of contemporary dance. Students prepare to reach beyond assumed limits of understanding about dance through course work and ongoing exposure to professionals and scholars in the field of modern and contemporary dance around the globe, combined with opportunities both on and off campus, By taking advantage of a variety of techniques, performance experiences, and in-depth creative process studies, students are prepared to transfer skills and knowledge in a variety of ways to meet the ever-changing needs and challenges of young artists in today’s world. Students desiring to obtain the BA/BFA Dance degree attend the American Dance Festival at Duke University or serve as Arts Administrative and Production interns in the Hollins University MFA in Dance Program during the summer. They may also participate in the January Short Term Intensive dance experiences in New York.
Outcomes
SLO 1: To create a formal research document, which includes a bibliography, and all research and documentation using Chicago Style Manual . SLO 2: To discuss and develop performance skills such as projection, spatial intent, focus and commitment. SLO 3: Students will experiment with different processes for making art.
