ENGL444: HISTORY OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE

A study of the origins and development of the English language. Focus is on the changes of sounds, words, and other language structures across time, with deep consideration of the social and cultural factors that shape the history of English. Prerequisites: Junior standing or permission of instructor; previous 300- or 400-level coursework in phonetics or linguistics is strongly recommended with ENGL 370 preferred.
