ASL101: Introductory American Sign Language I

This course provides an introduction to American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture. Students learn basic person-to-person conversational signing. The course emphasizes development of expressive and receptive skills. Students will increase their knowledge of ASL vocabulary and the syntax, semantics and pragmatics of the language. The course begins to explore cultural issues related to the Deaf community.
