Transfer Guidance
Guaranteed Admission Agreement For UVA Nursing RN To BSN
-
Completes an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing and passes the NCLEX examination for Registered Nurses within the five years preceding matriculation at UVA. All required nursing courses must be taken within the VCCS. This will total 42 credits.

Earn a minimum of 48 total prerequisite and general education credits, 39 credits or more of which are taken at a VCCS campus. You can find additional information in the 'Are There Other Program Requirements' section.

Achieves a cumulative grade point average in VCCS coursework of 3.4 or better on a 4.0 scale at the time of application and at the time of matriculation.

Earns a C or better in every VCCS course taken, with the exception that the grade in the following courses must be a B or better: ENG 111 and ENG 112.

Possess an unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia, or an unencumbered compact (multistate) license as a Registered Nurse pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact, by the start of the academic year in which the student matriculates at UVA.

Many applicants who are not eligible for the Guaranteed Admission Agreement are still strong applicants for the program.

What Should I Consider When Selecting Courses?

Make sure you complete all prerequisite courses. This should total at least 48 prerequisite and general education credits and 42 nursing credits from the A.A.S in Nursing program.

Associate Transfer Degree Completion: Completion of your A.A.S in Nursing results in 42 advanced standing transferable credits contributing to your BSN degree.

Dual Enrollment -- Completion of Associate Degree in HS: Dual Enrollment and AP credit are evaluated for credit. Consider meeting with an admissions officer to see how this credit might transfer.

Credit from Previous Institutions: Credits completed at another regionally accredited institution can be evaluated to see if they fulfill program prerequisites as long as you receive a C or better. These credits may influence Guaranteed Admission Agreement eligibility but can satisfy the program prerequisites.

Catalog Year: Catalog year determined by first semester of attendance at the community college post-high school graduation.
Is This College Right For Me?

The RN to BSN program is a part-time hybrid program with year-round classes. Students enter into the program in the fall semester and complete the program in 5 semesters total.

Classes are mostly online with in-person experiential learning once per month. We offer cohorts in Charlottesville, Richmond, and Fairfax.

Students can expect about two classes per semester allowing students to work full-time while taking classes part-time.

Experience the flexibility of online classes with the added advantage of in-person cohort experiences with like-minded peers and faculty.

What Are My Chances For Getting Accepted?

Students who complete all prerequisite and general education requirements along with their A.A.S. in Nursing degrees are competitive applicants.

The Nursing Admissions Office also offers conditional admission for students who are close to completion of their prerequisites or who need to pass their NCLEX prior to matriculation into the program.

Are There Other Program Requirements?

In order to be eligible for the UVA RN to BSN program, you will need to transfer in 48 prerequisite and general education requirement credits listed below along with 42 credits from your A.A.S. in Nursing Program. Some of these courses are included in the A.A.S. in Nursing curriculum but others may need to be completed in addition to your A.A.S. program.

Prerequisite Requirements: Anatomy & Physiology I & II (BIO 141/142), Microbiology (BIO 150), Lifespan Development (PSY 230)- this course is a prerequisite but cannot count toward your social science general education requirement, because it is part of the 42-credits awarded for your A.A.S. nursing courses.

General Education Requirements: English Composition (ENG 111/112) 6 credits; Natural Science & Math (BIO 141/142/150) 12 credits; Social Science & History (3 Social Science courses) 9 credits; Humanities & Fine Arts (3 Art/Humanities courses) 9 credits; General Electives (3/4 General Elective courses) 12 credits
