Use this document to learn about colleges and universities in Virginia that offer degree completion programs aimed at adult students.
If you’re an adult student who left college before you were able to complete your degree, there are a number of options for you in Virginia. These include the following:
Averett University offers an IDEAL (Individually Designed Education for Adult Learners) Program with alternatives for students whose responsibilities prevent them from attending class on a regular basis. Averett offers other programs for adult students as well.
Bluefield College provides accelerated degree completion options in several academic majors.
Eastern Mennonite University offers accelerated cohort-based programs for adult students in two program areas.
George Mason University has a Bachelor of Individualized Study (BIS) program that allows adults to complete their bachelor’s degrees with an interdisciplinary studies focus.
Hollins University offers the Horizon Program for adult women who wish to complete a bachelor’s degree in dance.
James Madison University has an Adult Degree Program open to those aged 25 and older who wish to earn a BIS, BA or BS in Individualized Study.
Liberty University offers a Multidisciplinary Studies degree for adult students with significant transfer credit, allowing them to complete their degrees in an accelerated manner.
Mary Baldwin College has an Adult Degree Program (ADP) with flexible learning options for adult learners.
Norfolk State University designed a degree completion program for former NSU students, known as the Reclamation Project. Any major may be completed through this program.
Old Dominion University offers online degree completion programs to adult students who have earned some college credit and wish to pursue bachelor’s programs in a variety of majors.
University of Mary Washington has two programs for adult students, the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) and the Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS).
University of Virginia offers a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) for adult students through part-time evening studies.
University of Virginia at Wise provides degree-completion options for adult students at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon. Classes are available in the evening, on weekends and/or online.
Virginia State University offers a Bachelor of Individualized Studies (BIS) for adult students with a wide range of majors available.
Virginia Wesleyan University offers an Adult Studies Program in a number of majors. Students are able to complete classes in the evenings, weekends and online.
