What Should I Consider When Selecting Courses?

Select courses that allow room in your schedule for Emergency Services specific electives at Radford University

Determine if you wish to seek education for Initial Paramedic Certification or if your interest is in completion of the Emergency Services bachelor's degree without enrolling in initial Paramedic certification courses.

The Emergency Services program begins Initial Paramedic Certification during the second semester freshman year. Students meeting all program requirements are eligible to sit for the National Registry Paramedic certification exam at the end of the second semester junior year. All courses required to complete the bachelor's degree after certification testing are offered online only.

Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math, English, and Biology 101 courses in your first year. For help, see Transfer Steps and Resource Center at www.TransferVirginia.org

What Is The Impact On My Degree Of Work I Have Already Completed?

Associate Transfer Degree Completion: The completion of the transfer-oriented degree program will satisfy the REAL Curriculum (lower division/general education) requirements. Students will need to complete all other University, college, and departmental requirements to obtain the baccalaureate degree from RU.

Dual Enrollment – Completion of Associate Degree in HS: Students completing the associate degree in high school should apply using the freshman application. If admitted, the student will receive the benefits associated with the transferable associate degree (as noted prior).

Credit for Prior Learning: AP, IB, and CLEP are evaluated for credits (based on receipt and evaluation of official scores).

Credit for Prior Learning: Applicants holding valid certification from the National Registry of EMTs at the Paramedic level are eligible to receive 57 credits through the "Credit by Exam" process.

Catalog Year: Students will be subject to the catalog in effect at the time of enrollment at RU unless otherwise requested.

Completing your Associate transfer degree post-high school satisfies all lower division general education requirements and increases the chance of completing your bachelor's degree.

Students transferring credits after completion of all general education requirements may be able to complete the initial Paramedic Certification track and graduate after two and a half to three years in the Emergency Services Program.

Exceeding 3 years or 90 credits at your community college means you may have exhausted your financial aid at that college and have limited your future financial aid at Radford University.
